d'Amico International Shipping has announced the launching of two "eco"-type vessels, built at Hyundai's Vinashin shipyard in Vietnam.
The first vessel, a 50,000DWT ship named 'High Sun', was ordered in March 2013. The vessel will be operated out of Malta by a company in which d'Amico has a 33 per cent stake.
The second vessel, the 50,000DWT 'High Fidelity', will be delivered to d'Amico's Ireland-based subsidiary in the third quarter of 2014.
Both vessels are already fixed in time charter arrangements with an oil refining company for periods of three and two years, respectively.
The newbuildings were constructed to an IMO II MR-type design, with an emphasis on fuel efficiency. Both vessels will meet the required EEDI levels of the IMO's upcoming emissions regulations.
