‘ELBE’ enters CMA CGM fleet

Valentine Watkins

The CMA CGM group has announced the maiden voyage of the 'CMA CGM ELBE' from the Chinese port city of Dalian.

The vessel is the second of a series of 28 newbuildings for the cargo liner, with the first vessel, 'CMA CGM DANUBE', arriving in June. Each vessel in the series will be named after a famous river.

Constructed in Dalian and sailing under the Malta flag, the ship is the second chartered ship of this class built by shipyard DSIC (Dalian PRC) and delivered to CMA CGM.

The vessel measures 300 metres in length with a width of 48 metres. With the vessel to undertake CMA CGM's Bosphorus Express line, the ship's dimensions were restrained by the Strait of Bosphorus.

The vessel has a capacity of over 1,400 40-foot reefer plugs, reflecting the company's ambition in the reefer market.

The ship is equipped with a range of environmental technologies designed to reduce both emissions and carbon footprint, including a new bulbous bow shape.
