Asian Shipping and Work Boat 2009 opens today!

The sixth Asian Shipping and Work Boat exhibition (ASWB) opens today at Suntec Singapore, Hall 401 and will run from 24-26 February, 2009.

Amidst an uncertain outlook for the global shipping and maritime sector, exhibition organiser Neil Baird, Chairman of Baird Events, reports positive growth for the show this year, in addition to the return of regular long-term exhibitors.

Ever the contrarian, Baird  has advocated a calm, measured approach to the comments of economic doomsayers. "Booms and busts in shipping come and go roughly every decade or so. What we're seeing currently is a much-needed shakedown in an over-heated maritime sector which will see it emerge leaner, meaner and with some great potential opportunities for investors."

Asian Shipping and Work Boat is opened today by Brigadier General Tay Lim Heng, Chief Executive of Singapore's world renowned Maritime and Port Authority. It features more than eighty exhibiting companies from 24 countries.

Mr Baird said that he was delighted that B.G. Tay could grace this year's show, which will focus front-and-centre on the OSV, tug and barge markets – all of which Baird estimates will see growth potential in the coming near term.

As with all Baird Events, Asian Shipping and Workboat 2009 is being heavily cross-promoted by Baird Publications' market leading international maritime magazines: Work Boat World, Ausmarine, and Ships and Shipping and its world-leading www.bairdmaritime.com website.

"As with the last instalment of Asian Shipping and Work Boat, quality is the cornerstone," Mr Baird remarked.
