The compact tug Grossman (Гроссман) entered service in early August 2026 at the Russian port of Vladivostok, thus completing a design and construction contract between Russian Shipbuilding Company (RSK) and local fishing company Grossevichi.
The Project RBT14S vessel was laid down in August 2025 and has been described as the first tug of her type to be built in the Primorye Territory of Far Eastern Russia.
RSK General Director Igor Pronovich said sea trials of the new tug were successful, and all conditions of the technical specification and the contract were met in full.
The vessel is currently registered in the international register of vessels of the harbour master of the Port of Vladivostok, where she is now performing towing tasks.
Grossman is a compact seagoing tug intended for port and roadstead work, principally barge towing.
The vessel is fitted with two main engines that each produce 176 kW (236 hp). RSK said this arrangement improves both manoeuvrability and reliability.
The bollard pull generated is four tonnes, which is sufficient for moving barges of between 150 and 300 tonnes each in calm water. This capability places the tug in the sheltered-water workboat segment rather than ship-assist or coastal towing.
Fuel consumption is 72 litres (16 gallons) per hour, a figure RSK cites in describing the tug as among the most economical in her class. The builder added that the design provides cruising autonomy despite the vessel's small dimensions.
The aft deck carries the towing line attachment and a hydraulic winch, while a mooring capstan is installed forward.
The standard configuration for this project also called for a generator rated at up to 25 kW and hydraulic steering gear with a duplicated drive acting on two rudders. Propulsion is via two solid steel four-bladed propellers, one right-handed and one left-handed.
The tug is operated by a crew of two. The wheelhouse includes an area for crew rest during berthing with heating, natural ventilation and electrical outlets for a domestic refrigerator and an electric hotplate.
A toilet and washbasin are meanwhile fitted in the aft part of the superstructure.
Grossman was built in compliance with the requirements of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping.
