Danish towage company Svitzer has placed an order for a fully electric ASD tug to be deployed in Scandinavia to provide services between Denmark and Sweden.

Designed by Canadian naval architecture firm Robert Allan Ltd, the new tug will have an LOA of 25.4 metres, a beam of 12.86 metres, a draught of 5.6 metres, a Corvus Energy battery pack with an output of 1,818 kWh, and a bollard pull of 70 tonnes.

The tug will be able to operate safely and efficiently on electrical power only, performing a range of duties that also include escort. It will also have two generators for providing backup, extending endurance, and supplying power for the firefighting pump.

Delivery of the new tug is scheduled for the second half of 2025.

Mathias Jonasson, Scandinavia Managing Director for Svitzer, said the acquisition of the tug is in response to the growing demand for environment-friendly towage services in Scandinavia.
