German tug operator H Schramm Towage has placed an order for a new twin Z-drive tractor tug to support its harbour ship-handling, escort, and towing operations in northern Europe.
The vessel will be built to a design by Canadian naval architecture firm Robert Allan Ltd. It will be the third tug of this design in the operator’s fleet.
The new tug will measure 25.3 metres in length, with a 12-metre beam and a draught of 6.2 metres. It will include FiFi 1 fire-fighting capability and meet IMO Tier III emissions standards. Propulsion will be provided by Caterpillar engines driving Kongsberg thrusters, enabling the vessel to deliver up to 80 tonnes of bollard pull.
H Schramm Towage operates primarily in the waters around the Elbe River, the Baltic Sea, and the Kiel Canal.
"With the new tug, we are further strengthening our capabilities in harbour and escort operations," said H Schramm Towage Managing Director Nico Andritter-Witt.
