Vera Chalkidis, the Commercial Director of Athenian Sea Carriers has been chosen to succeed Marita Scott of NorthEdge Risk Services, Bergen, who has held the Presidency of the Women's International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA) for the past four years.
Ms Chalkidis was elected at the 2009 WISTA International conference, which has been held in London from September 16 to 18.
Ms Scott said that her presidency had been an extremely rewarding time.
WISTA membership has been on the rise in recent years. There are now 1,200 members from 27 countries. The latest WISTA national associations to be formed have been in Hong Kong, Turkey, Switzerland and Panama, and work is continuing to expand the network further.
