UK: Merchant Navy Training Board promotes careers at sea

Baird Maritime

The Merchant Navy Training Board (MNTB), UK, is launching its Careers at Sea Ambassadors scheme in the UK this northern autumn and is looking for professionals from across the shipping industry to volunteer and help to promote maritime careers to the next generation of seafarers.

The MNTB launched the pilot project for Careers at Sea Ambassadors at the beginning of 2009. Over the last five months, six ambassadors equipped with a range of specialist resources developed by the MNTB have visited schools, colleges and youth groups to talk about the exciting and varied career opportunities available in the merchant navy.

Now the MNTB is looking for more volunteers to take part in the voluntary scheme. Ambassadors should ideally have their own links with schools, colleges or youth groups. They will be expected to organise and arrange a minimum of two school visits a year.
