Trafigura took delivery of the very large crude carrier (VLCC) Vive ut Vivas from Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry in China on June 26, 2026.

Classed by ABS, the Marshall Islands-registered VLCC has a deadweight of 319,906, an LOA of 332.99 metres (1,092.5 feet), a moulded beam of 60 metres (200 feet), a moulded depth of 30.6 metres (100 feet), and a design draught of 20.5 metres (67.3 feet).

The cargo oil tank capacity is 344,903.93 cubic metres (75.87 million gallons). The builder described the ship as capable of carrying more than two million barrels of crude, placing it firmly in the large-parcel, long-haul segment of the tanker market.

The specification listed an estimated gross tonnage of 162,000 and a crew complement of 30. The design speed is 14.5 knots, while the class service designation is unrestricted.

With added safety features for navigating in extreme weather

Vive Ut Vivas' delivery ceremony, June 26, 2026

The builder’s delivery account described a double-bottom and double-hull arrangement throughout the cargo area, together with dedicated slop tanks and ballast tanks. The ballast capacity is 94,879.59 cubic metres (20.87 million gallons).

One cargo tank can also be used as a storm ballast tank in extreme weather, providing an additional operational option alongside the dedicated ballast system.

The VLCC’s main engine is IMO Tier III-compliant, thanks to the installation of a selective catalytic reduction system. An open-loop exhaust-gas scrubber provides SOx emissions control under the relevant operating conditions.

The fuel oil capacity is 6,320.58 cubic metres (1.39 million gallons). Freshwater capacity is 979.94 cubic metres (215,560 gallons) and lube oil capacity is 399.23 cubic metres (87,818 gallons).

Built to allow future integration of alternative fuels

The core ABS class entries include ✠A1, Oil Carrier, ESP, Ⓔ(DWA), ✠AMS and ✠ACCU. The specification also lists CPS-B, CPS-COT, CSR, AB-CM and LSC.

Additional notations include EGC-SOx (M), BWT, ENVIRO+, IHM, UWILD and VEC. These sit within a wider additional-notation package that also includes BWE, CRC(SC-PL, SP), ESA, NBLES, POT, RRDA, RW, SPMA and TCM.

The listed fuel-readiness classifications are Ammonia Fuel Ready Level 1C, LNG Fuel Ready Level 1C and Methanol Fuel Ready Level 1C, indicating that the ship can be configured in future to accommodate these low-emission alternative fuels.

The VLCC will be operated by Volare Shipping, which was established by Trafigura as its tanker owning and operating arm.
