Greek tanker operator Tsakos Energy Navigation (TEN) has taken delivery of a new Suezmax tanker, Dr Irene Tsakos, from HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in South Korea.
The company also announced the naming of the vessel's sister ship, Silia T, which is scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of 2025.
According to TEN, both vessels have secured long-term charters. Dr Irene Tsakos has been chartered to a European energy company for five years, while Silia T has been chartered to a US energy firm for three years, with options to extend to nine years.
The company stated its total future secured revenue backlog is now approximately $3.7 billion.
The delivery is part of a fleet renewal program the company initiated in January 2023. Since then, TEN has divested fourteen older vessels and replaced them with 30 newbuilds and secondhand acquisitions.
With the delivery of Dr Irene Tsakos, TEN’s pro-forma fleet now consists of 82 vessels, with 63 currently in operation. The company has nineteen vessels under construction, including one Suezmax tanker, eleven shuttle tankers, and seven product tankers, with deliveries scheduled through the end of 2028.
