Italian shipping company Augusta Due recently took delivery of a newbuild tanker designed for the transport of petrochemical products.
The 18,500DWT Primo M was built by Fujian Southeast Shipbuilding in China. Augusta Due said the newbuild meets the most advanced technological standards and, thanks to its highly efficient dual-fuel propulsion system, can cut fuel consumption in half compared to a vessel of the same size built over the last few years.
Due to its low-emission technology, the vessel is also capable of operating in emission control areas (ECAs) that include Northern Europe and the United States. Starting in May of this year, the ship will also begin operating in the Mediterranean. The propulsion can also be modified in the future to accommodate methanol fuel.
The tanker is equipped with a shore power connection, allowing it to carry out commercial operations with its engines and generators switched off while berthed.
Primo M, will also be available to serve long-term time charters.
