US liquefied natural gas (LNG) producer Venture Global announced on July 16 that it has signed a 20-year sales and purchase agreement (SPA) with Italian energy company Eni. The deal is for the supply of two million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of LNG.
The LNG will be supplied from Venture Global’s third project, CP2 LNG. The company noted this is Eni’s first-ever long-term agreement with a US LNG producer. Venture Global said it has supplied Italy with nearly 40 cargoes of LNG from its Calcasieu Pass and Plaquemines LNG facilities, to date.
With this agreement, approximately 13.5 MTPA of the CP2 project's first phase has been sold, bringing the total contracted capacity for all of Venture Global’s projects to 43.5 MTPA.
The news comes after a recent report stated that the company has started producing LNG from phase two of its Plaquemines export facility in Louisiana.
