Taiwanese shipping company U-Ming Marine Transport and Japan's Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line) will establish a new joint venture that will focus on the operation of LNG carriers.
Under the framework of this cooperation, U-Ming Marine Transport and K Line jointly invested in an LNG carrier with a capacity of 174,000 cubic metres, powered by a dual-fuel main engine, and equipped with energy-saving and environmental protection technologies.
Construction will be undertaken by South Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries.
The LNG carrier will boast an advanced streamlined hull design and a bottom air lubrication system that reduces frictional resistance. This can improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and help minimise operating costs.
The new LNG carrier is scheduled to be delivered to the joint venture company in 2026, after which it will be deployed on global trade routes.
U-Ming Marine Transport and K Line will also focus on exploring more long-term and stable cooperation opportunities to further improve their operational efficiency and financial performance.
