Shanghai International Port Group subsidiary orders LNG bunkering ship

Jens Karsten

The Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) of China, through its wholly subsidiary SIPG Energy, has awarded Jiangnan Shipbuilding a contract for the construction of a new LNG bunkering vessel.

The vessel will feature three IMO type C LNG cargo tanks with a total capacity of 20,000 cubic metres, an IMO Tier III propulsion system that will ensure reduced SOx and CO2 emissions, an electrically driven azimuthing main thruster, a bow thruster, and an intelligent ship management system.

The ship will be used for ship-to-ship bunkering and supply of LNG to onshore terminals. Equipment will be available to recover and treat any boil-off gas, allowing it to be used by the onboard machinery instead of being released directly into the atmosphere.

The vessel will also feature facilities for inerting, cold cabin and gas test services for other LNG-powered ships.

Jiangnan Shipbuilding is scheduled to hand over the new LNG bunkering vessel to SIPG Energy in the first half of 2027.
