Golar exits LNG segment with sale of last remaining gas carrier

Baird Maritime

Golar LNG has executed agreements to sell the 2003-built steam turbine LNG carrier Golar Arctic for a sale price US$24 million before transaction related expenses.

Golar said that the LNG carrier is unencumbered and that it expects the transaction to close and the vessel handed over to its new owner within the first quarter of 2025.

Golar Arctic is the last LNG carrier in the Golar LNG fleet. Following the vessel sale, Golar will have fully exited its legacy shipping business, which had operated since 1975.

The LNG carrier Fuji LNG discharged its final cargo as an LNG carrier in January 2025, and has now arrived in China preparing to enter the facilities of local shipyard CIMC for conversion into a floating LNG unit (FLNG) later this month.

Golar CEO Karl Fredrik Staubo said that, with the sale of Golar Arctic, Golar's transition into a focused FLNG infrastructure company is now complete.
