China State Shipbuilding Corporation subsidiary Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding has begun construction of a new LNG carrier ordered by China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC).
The ship will be the latest example in a series of LNG carriers designed and built by Hudong-Zhonghua. Upon completion, it will have an LOA of 295 metres, a beam of 46.4 metres, a depth of 26.25 metres, and a total cargo capacity of 174,000 cubic metres.
Even with its dimensions, the design will permit safe berthing across a broad selection of LNG terminals worldwide.
A low-speed, dual-fuel engine will propel the ship to speeds of up to 19.5 knots. The engine will also boast a daily fuel consumption of no more than 100 tonnes as well as significantly reduced emissions in both gas and conventional fuel modes, allowing the ship to meet the IMO’s most stringent environmental standards.
The ship will be the sixth 174,000cbm to be built by Hudong-Zhonghua for CNOOC.
