Chinese builder breaks ground on new gas carrier manufacturing base

China's Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group formally began construction of a facility dedicated to the production of new gas carriers in Jingjiang in Jiangsu province.

The Yangzi Hongyuan Green High-tech Clean Energy Ship Manufacturing Base Project entails the construction of the new shipbuilding and ship repair facility in Jiangsu.

The works formally began with a groundbreaking ceremony at the site on Wednesday, February 19.

The completed facility will have a shoreline length of 1,320 metres and a total area of approximately 530 hectares. There will also be a construction dock, an outfitting wharf, and a port basin.

The facility, which is scheduled to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2026, will have a projected annual output of 800,000 DWT and revenues totalling approximately CNY10 billion (US$1.4 billion).

Yangzijiang Shipbuilding is investing around CNY3 billion (US$400 million) for the new manufacturing base, which will be capable of constructing LNG carriers of up to 175,000 cubic metres' capacity.
