Chinese shipping company Pioneer Tanker formally named its two newest dual-fuel chemical tankers in a ceremony on Thursday, June 19.
Ardbeg and Dictador were built by Fujian Shipbuilding subsidiary Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding in compliance with ice class 1C requirements. Each newbuild has an LOA of 149.8 metres, a beam of 22.8 metres, a draught of 12.7 metres, and a deadweight of 18,500.
The ships' cargo tanks are capable of transporting various liquid cargo such as crude oil, petroleum products with a density of less than 1.54 tons per cubic metre, and class II and III chemicals.
Power for each ship is provided by a two-stroke main diesel engine driving a controllable-pitch propeller. The main engine and the generator on each tanker are equipped with selective catalytic reduction systems to ensure compliance with IMO Tier III NOx emission requirements.
Other features on each ship include an energy-saving guide duct and a variable frequency shaft generator that would help reduce energy consumption.
