Capital Tankers Corporation has expanded its operational fleet to 14 vessels following the delivery of the LR2 tanker Athinagoras from New Times Shipbuilding in China.
The 111,791 DWT dual-fuel LNG tanker increases the company's active fleet to five Suezmax tankers, four Aframax tankers, four LR2 tankers, and one VLCC.
Part of the vessel's financing was secured through a $50 million senior loan facility, which will be repaid in 32 equal quarterly instalments of $0.7 million. A final balloon payment of $27.6 million is due together with the last instalment in August 2034.
According to the company, three additional Suezmax tankers are scheduled for delivery during the remainder of 2026.
Capital Tankers expects to have 17 vessels in operation by the end of the year, comprising one VLCC, eight Suezmax tankers, four Aframax tankers, and four LR2 tankers.
Including vessels under construction, the company has a fleet of 33 tankers comprising 15 VLCCs, 10 Suezmax tankers, and eight Aframax or LR2 tankers. Of these, 14 are currently in service while 19 newbuildings are scheduled for delivery between 2026 and 2028. The company also holds options for a further 13 crude tankers.
