South Korea's DH Shipbuilding (formerly Daehan Shipbuilding) has handed over a new LR2 tanker to the partnership formed by Greek shipping company Atlas Maritime and European Maritime Finance (EMF).
The 115,000DWT was built in fulfilment of a US$1 billion newbuilding program, which will cover the construction of 17 vessels to the Atlas/EMF partnership.
The two companies expect all 17 tankers to be delivered by 2026. Those ships that have already been delivered are currently serving long-term charters with various energy companies.
The LR2 tanker is the newest ship to be delivered by DH Shipbuilding to Atlas Maritime. Other ships being built by DH Shipbuilding for the same customer include two 157,000DWT, LNG-ready Suezmax tankers ordered in mid-2024.
Like the recently delivered LR2 tanker, the Suezmax tankers will be fitted with exhaust aftertreatment scrubbers to ensure compliance with IMO emissions regulations.
The Atlas/EMF had also ordered three 88,000-cubic-metre LPG/ammonia carriers to be built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries. These ships are scheduled for delivery by the end of 2027.
