Scan-Trans boosts capacity

Baird Maritime

Danish shipping company Scan-Trans Worldwide has announced plans to take over the management of six ships formerly operated by bankrupt freighting company Beluga Shipping, boosting its total cargo capacity by more than 40 percent.

Scan-Trans will have commercial management rights for four former Beluga E/F Type 12,700DWT multipurpose tweendeckers. In addition, the company has been entrusted with two 17,000DWT G-Type tweendeckers by the German Project Carriers shipowners consortium, formed after Beluga declared bankruptcy earlier this year.

Accorrding to Scan-Trans, the added vessels will raise its fleet's total deadweight capacity from about 200,000 tonnes to 285,000 tonnes.
