Spain's Port of Barcelona to invest $134m in berth construction

Baird Maritime

The board of directors of the Port of Barcelona in Spain has approved the construction of three new berths for bulk liquids on the east side of the port's energy quay, similar to the current berth 34B.

These facilities will be used mainly for the loading and unloading of new low-emission fuels.

The port will invest a total of €124 million (US$134 million) for the project.

The construction of these three new berths, as well as the expansion of the existing pit to guarantee the adequate connection of the unloading arms in the industrial facilities operating at the energy dock, has a projected duration of 38 months.

The Port of Barcelona said the new berths are necessary for increasing unloading capacity and streamlining the throughput of fuels through the facilities.

Once these new berths are operational, the current berth 32 will be upgraded. It will later be used exclusively for the loading and unloading of chemicals and liquid bulk agricultural products in bulk.
