Seaports of Ukraine handled 145 million tonnes of cargo in 2015

Cargo throughput at sea ports of Ukraine from has increased by 1.4 per cent from January to December 2015, according to the state-owned Sea Ports Authority.

In 2015, export cargo handling reached 104 million tonnes, a decrease of 0.6 per cent compared to 2014 levels, while the handling of imports increased by 13.2 per cent to 18 million tonnes.

The amount of transit cargo slumped by 23.4 per cent to 16 million tonnes, while cabotage soared to almost 7.0 million tonnes, an increase of 96.8 per cent. Container traffic fell by 28 per cent to 482,162TEU.

State port operators owned by the Ministry of Infrastructure Management handled 49 million tonnes, or 33.8 per cent of the total throughput. The remainder of the throughput was handled by private port operators, accounting for 96 million tonnes of cargo.

Significant contributions were also made by the Port of Berdyansk and the Port of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi, which experienced an increase of cargo throughput by 39.2 per cent and 17 per cent respectively.
