Spain's Port of Barcelona and China's Shanghai International Port Group have entered into an agreement to intensify the connections between both ports and share knowledge in the areas of digitalisation and standardisation of maritime transport.
The agreement seeks to consolidate the relationship between the Ports of Barcelona and that of Shanghai. Work is underway to foster port and maritime services between Barcelona and Shanghai and to develop solutions in areas such as digitalisation, sharing experiences and good practices and taking part in joint training programmes, and also in other areas including management and security.
The Port of Barcelona said both ports have also committed to developing a "green shipping and digital corridor" that will cover maritime routes using ships powered by "green energy".
The ports will also developing the capacities and regulations to supply "green energy" fuels in both ports with the aim of offering "emissions-neutral" maritime services between the Far East and the Mediterranean.
Both ports will also establish strategic collaboration in the area of cruise tourism, coinciding with the reactivation of the Chinese market.
