Malaysia's Port Klang Authority (PKA), in a bid to burnish its scarred credentials, is introducing a whistle-blowing policy, reported the Bernama News Agency.
According to the report, the approval and consequent implementation of such a policy is to expose corruption, offences and mismanagement.
"PKA's internal auditor is now the appointed representative to implement the policy and act as a whistle blower until a committee has been established," the report said. The appointed representatives will brief staff of PKA and PKFZ in mid-January on the new policy's guidelines.
In the past two years, the PKA has had its share of scandals. A Free Trade Zone scandal resulting in massive cost overruns, coupled with revelations of corporate mismanagement, led to the arrest of some key officials that included former IAPH president and PKA general manager Datin Paduka O C Phang last month. Subsequent investigations also netted other key officials.
Baird Maritime also understands from sources close to the Northport terminal that despite her arraignment, Datin Paduka was allowed to travel to the United States for an IAPH conference in December 2009.
