Container throughput at Russian seaports in January to May 2011 increased by 41.9 percent compared with the same period of 2010, to 1.87 million TEU, the Association of Commercial Seaports (ASOP) said.
Containers exports rose 46.6 percent to 0.82 million TEU, imports by 44.7 percent to 0.86 million TEU, and short sea container traffic by 11.2 percent to 0.17 million TEU. The bulk of container flow passes through the port of St. Petersburg, with 52.4 percent. During this period, the best growth trend was recorded in box throughputs at the ports of Kaliningrad (an increase of 2.1 times), Vostochny and Novorossiysk (an increase of 1.6 times).
