One of the iconic vessels running ferry services between Manhattan and Staten Island in New York City is to be converted to run on liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The Staten Island Ferry service has been awarded a discretionary grant from the SU Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) of US$2,340,000 for the conversion of one of its boats to be run on LNG fuel. The award is part of a US$417.3 million package of grants to fund an array of initiatives ranging from interstate maintenance to research into innovative bridge materials and construction methods.
