Norway-headquartered Siem Industries has acquired German shipyard Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG), including all assets and employees.
Siem Industries, a company with operations in mining, marine services, oil and gas, and ocean-transport of refrigerated goods and automobiles, owns a fleet of 145 vessels, with the majority of its work boat fleet found via controlling stakes in marine service providers such as Siem Offshore and SubSea 7.
An established builder of seismic research and support vessels and well-intervention vessels, FSG is also a leader in the construction of custom Ro-Ro vessels. Additionally, a recent order will see the FSG build one of the world's first LNG-fuelled Ro-Ro ferries for Australian shipping company SeaRoad.
Siem's acquisition of FSG follows on from a previously established working relationship between the two companies.
In February 2014, Siem Offshore ordered two well-intervention vessels from the shipyard.
