Thorco acquires five vessels

Baird Maritime

Thorco Shipping has acquired five large tweendeckers. The vessels each have a 16,954DWT and are equipped with two 50-tonne capacity cranes.

The company currently has 20 vessels within the 15,000DWT to 20,000DWT segment. According to the Thorco CEO, Thomas Mikkelsen, the expansion within this segment has been and is a strategic focus in Thorco, and the five new vessels compliment the existing fleet.

The five vessels will replace some of the older tonnage in the fleet. The first of the five vessels will be delivered to Thorco in mid-December of 2016 and at weekly intervals thereafter.

Last year, Thorco bought two 20,000DWT vessels, 'Isadora' and 'Isabella', from Maersk Line. The company currently has an ongoing program in Japan with ten L-Class newbuildings in progress.
