Fred. Olsen Express adds new cargo ship to La Palma connection

Fred. Olsen Express' Olsen Cargo Express unit will add a third Ro-Ro ferry to its fleet this summer to connect La Palma, Spain, with the islands of Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote.

The new vessel will be named Breñas Cargo and will be used to transport cargo, mainly Ro-Ro, on a regular service with three weekly rotations and optimised schedules for the supplies and transport of products from the Isla Bonita.

In addition, it will facilitate the connection with the Iberian Peninsula, through the route that Fred. Olsen operates together with Baleària between the Canary Islands and Huelva.

Breñas Cargo can transport up to 1,500 linear metres and 7,000 tons. With a length of 138.5 metres, it is equipped with two transverse propellers that facilitate manoeuvres in port, and can reach a maximum speed of 20 knots.

Like the other two Cargo Express ships, it is capable of transporting dry goods, refrigerated goods, hazardous materials and special loads that exceed size or weight standards.

"It supports both hooked and unhooked units, allowing customers greater logistical flexibility as they can drop off their cargo at one port and pick it up at another, thus adapting to their operational needs and more efficient management of their resources," said Fred. Olsen.
