VESSEL REVIEW | Trans Harmony Green & Trans Harmony Emerald – Car carriers to be deployed on Toyofuji Shipping's Southeast Asia routes

Baird Maritime

Japan’s Toyofuji Shipping has taken delivery of two new pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs) in a series from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI).

Trans Harmony Green and Trans Harmony Emerald each have an LOA of 195 metres (640 feet), a moulded beam of 30.6 metres (100 feet), a moulded depth of 8.5 metres (28 feet), a gross tonnage of 49,264, and capacity for 3,000 cars.

Flexible dual-fuel propulsion

Trans Harmony Green

Each ship’s Mitsui E&S 6S60ME-C10.5-GI 10,800kW (14,500hp) main engine and main generator are dual-fuel capable and can operate on either diesel or LNG.

MHI said that in combination with hull form improvements, the engine will enable each PCTC to reach a service speed of 19.5 knots as well as significantly reduce its emissions of CO2 (around 25 per cent) and SOx (nearly 99 per cent) compared similarly sized ships that operate on heavy fuel oil.

Clean and comfortable accommodation

Trans Harmony Green

The propulsion arrangement on each ship also includes a fixed-pitch propeller and a bow thruster while the LNG fuel is stored in two tanks.

The PCTCs have also been designed to provide improved working and residential environments for their crews. Key features on each ship include cabins fitted with infection control measures, an onboard network environment, and a mess with skylights.

Trans Harmony Green and Trans Harmony Emerald were built in compliance with Panamanian flag and ClassNK requirements and are being operated primarily on shipping routes in Southeast Asia.

The ships are managed by Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement via BSM Singapore and are operating under a bareboat charter with Kagoshima Senpaku Kaisha.
