Tadotsu Shipyard delivers LNG-fueled pure car carrier Angelite Ace

Alan Bosworth

Tadotsu Shipyard, a subsidiary of Japan's Imabari Shipbuilding Group, has delivered Angelite Ace, a new liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fueled pure car carrier with a capacity for 7,000 vehicles.

The Liberian-flagged vessel has a length of 199.9 metres, a beam of 38 metres, and a gross tonnage of 77,695. It is powered by one MAN 6S60ME-C10.5-GI main engine and has a service speed of approximately 18 knots.

According to the builder, the use of LNG as a primary fuel reduces CO2 emissions by 25 to 30 per cent compared to conventional fuel. The ship's exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system cuts NOx emissions by 80 to 90 per cent, while SOx emissions are reduced by almost 100 per cent. The vessel can also use boil-off gas from its LNG fuel tanks to power its generators and boilers.

For cargo operations, Angelite Ace features a bulkheadless structure and wide, linear slopes. It is also fitted with liftable decks that can be adjusted to accommodate not only passenger cars but also taller freight vehicles such as trucks and trailers.
