China's Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding has begun construction on two new pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs) that will be powered by dual-fuel engines that can also run on LNG.

The PCTCs belong to two different series. Upon completion, the first ship will have an LOA of 199.9 metres, a beam of 38 metres, a depth of 14.8 metres, a design draught of 8.65 metres, and 13 vehicle decks with a total capacity of 7,500 CEUs

The other PCTC will have an LOA of 177.8 metres, a beam of 33.4 metres, a depth of 13.55 metres, a design draught of 8.4 metres, and 12 vehicle decks with a total capacity of 4,200 CEUs. The vessel will be operated primarily in Europe, particularly in the Mediterranean and Black Seas.

The two PCTCs are also designed to be capable of transporting vehicles powered by hydrogen and natural gas on their three topmost decks as well as packaged dangerous goods.
