China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES) took delivery of the first of four 7,800CEU methanol dual-fuel pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs) from China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Jiangsu) on Saturday, October 10.

CM Guangzhou was named and handed over at the group-owned shipyard in Yizheng, Jiangsu province. CMES said in a stock exchange filing on October 13 that the vessel was received via a single-ship company wholly owned by CMES.

On the day of delivery, the PCTC called at the Longtan port area in Nanjing, where she loaded 1,530 vehicles for a newly opened direct Ro-Ro service between Nanjing and Europe. She sailed on Sunday, October 11, bound for Barcelona, according to Xinhua Daily.

According to the newspaper, no larger car carrier has called at Nanjing Port than CM Guangzhou. Her maximum vehicle capacity exceeds the previous record holder’s by 81 per cent.

The vessel was designed by Deltamarin and is classed by Lloyd's Register. She has a length of 199.9 metres, a beam of 37.7 metres, a draught of 9.3 metres, a gross tonnage of 76,400, and a deadweight of 14,600.
