India's Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) has recently formalised key agreements with several companies in the international maritime industry.
GRSE signed a memorandum of intent (MOI) with German shipowner Carsten Rehder Schiffsmakler und Reederei for the construction of four follow-on 7,500 DWT multi-purpose vessels.
These vessels will follow eight similar ships currently being built at GRSE’s Kolkata yard and will incorporate hybrid propulsion systems and conform to advanced cybersecurity standards, according to GRSE. It adds that the final contract is expected to be concluded by August 31.
In line with its strategy to enter the offshore platform and vessel construction sector, GRSE also signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Aries Marine, a Dubai-based engineering and design firm specialising in offshore platforms and vessels. The company said the collaboration will support its efforts to identify and develop offshore platform orders based on Aries’ designs and built by GRSE.
Additionally, GRSE entered into MOUs with an undisclosed "global engine manufacturer."
The said agreements coincide with a recently signed MOU with Norway's Kongsberg Maritime in anticipation of a request for proposal (RFP) for a polar research vessel by the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research of India.
