Taiwanese shipping company Wisdom Marine recently took delivery of a new handysize bulk carrier built by Imabari Shipbuilding of Japan.
The NK-classed, Liberian-flagged Yami Benefit has an LOA of 199.98 metres, a beam of 32.24 metres, a depth of 19.3 metres, a deadweight of 63,697, and a gross tonnage of 36,140. A 6S50ME-C9.7 main engine supplied by MAN propels the ship to speeds of up to 14 knots.
The ship will be used primarily to transport grain and coal but may also be configured to transport high-gravity cargo such as iron ore, cement and steel coils as well as IMDG Code-compliant dangerous goods.
The onboard environmental protection equipment meanwhile includes ballast water treatment systems while the efficiency-enhancing features include low-friction hull paint and energy-saving devices fitted near the propeller.
The vessel's two holds are each equipped with a top tank and a funnel tank to ensure suitability for loading solid bulk cargo. Each hold has a large opening for easy loading and unloading as well as a folding hatch cover that can be opened and closed front and back, which helps to save manpower and space.
The deck is equipped with four cranes, which will be used for loading and unloading in ports lacking in cargo handling facilities.
