Vietnam’s Dong Bac Shipbuilding Industry took delivery of a new bulk carrier on Thursday, December 26.

Truong Minh Dream 01 was built by local company Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (SBIC) via its subsidiary Nam Trieu Shipbuilding Company. Design work on the vessel was undertaken jointly by Vietnam Shipbuilding Engineering Company and Finnish naval architecture firm Bluetech in compliance with ClassNK rules that cover global operation.

The double-bottom Truong Minh Dream 01 measures approximately 200 metres long and has a deadweight of 65,000, making it one of the largest dry bulk vessels to be built in Vietnam. Power is provided by one MAN main engine while cargo is loaded into the five holds with the aid of four 30-tonne cranes.

Another vessel from the same series is under construction. It will be operated alongside its earlier sister out of the northern Vietnamese port of Haiphong.

Construction of Truong Minh Dream 01 is in line with the Vietnamese government's objective of expanding the country’s shipbuilding industry and presenting it as a lower-cost alternative for overseas markets.
