The Taiwan Flour Millers' Association purchased an estimated 89,650 tonnes of milling wheat to be sourced from the US in a tender on Wednesday, European traders said.

The purchase included various wheat types for shipment in two consignments from the US Pacific Northwest coast.

The first consignment for shipment between September 14 to 28 included 27,700 tonnes of US dark northern spring wheat of a minimum 14.5 per cent protein content bought at an estimated $278.26 per tonne free on board (FOB), they said.

It also included 9,675 tonnes of hard red winter wheat of a minimum 12.5 per cent protein content bought at $241.91 per tonne FOB and 7,200 tonnes of soft white wheat of a minimum 8.5 per cent and maximum 10 per cent protein bought at $244.43 per tonne FOB.

The first consignment has an extra freight charge of $44.19 per tonne for ocean shipping from the US Pacific Northwest coast to Taiwan, they said.

The second consignment for shipment between October 2 to 16 included 27,200 tonnes of dark northern spring wheat of a minimum 14.5 per cent protein content bought at an estimated $289.36 per tonne FOB, they said.

The second consignment also included 10,825 tonnes of hard red winter wheat of a minimum 12.5 per cent protein content bought at $253.75 per tonne FOB and 7,050 tonnes of soft white wheat of a minimum 8.5 per cent and maximum 10 per cent protein bought at $246.27 per tonne FOB.

The second consignment has an extra freight charge of $44.59 per tonne for ocean shipping from the US Pacific Northwest coast to Taiwan, they said.

All the grain in the tender was believed to have been sold by Columbia Grain International.

Reports reflect assessments from traders and further estimates of prices and volumes are still possible later.

In its previous tender on June 12, the association purchased 95,450 tonnes of US wheat.
