Singapore-based Uni-Asia Group has signed a shipbuilding contract with Nihon Shipyard for a 40,000 DWT double-hull bulk carrier.
The agreement, signed on August 6, marks the group's second newbuilding order following an initial contract announced in March 2026 and forms part of its fleet renewal strategy.
The vessel will be built by Imabari Shipbuilding at its Imabari Shipyard, with delivery scheduled between the fourth quarter of 2029 and the first half of 2030.
Uni-Asia Group said the purchase price was determined through arm's length negotiations and is consistent with prevailing market values for vessels of the same class.
The acquisition is expected to be financed through a combination of internal cash resources, external borrowings, and other financing arrangements.
The newbuilding will be fitted with an engine designed to improve fuel efficiency and will feature a dual-fuel-ready design that allows future conversion to dual-fuel propulsion and alternative fuel systems.
According to the company, the design has been selected to meet evolving international environmental regulations while improving on the specifications of its existing fleet.
Uni-Asia Group currently owns or holds majority interests in nine vessels, in addition to three ships held through joint investment arrangements.
