Taiwanese shipping company U-Ming Marine Transport has selected CSSC Beihai Shipbuilding for the construction of two new 180,000DWT bulk carriers in a series.
CSSC Beihai Shipbuilding is also manufacturing a 325,000DWT ore carrier and a 210,000DWT bulk carrier for U-Ming under earlier awarded contracts.
Upon completion, the 180,000DWT vessels will each have an LOA of 292 metres, a beam of 45 metres, a depth of 24.7 metres, and a structural draught of 18.2 metres.
The vessels have been comprehensively optimised in terms of line shape. The design takes into account the operational characteristics of full load and ballast navigation and focuses on the optimisation of wave resistance increase under heavy sea conditions.
The overall propulsion efficiency is more than two per cent higher than that of the previous generation of vessels while the environmental protection design meets the EEDI Phase III and IMO Tier Ⅲ NOx emission standards.
An electronic gas circulation system will meanwhile help each ship reduce its SOx emissions to further minimise environmental impact.
U-Ming expects to take delivery of the vessels by 2028.
