Safe Bulkers to sell 2007-built Kamsarmax bulker for $12.5m

Alan Bosworth

Dry bulk shipping operator Safe Bulkers announced on July 29 that it has entered into an agreement for the sale of the Pedhoulas Leader, a Japanese-built, Kamsarmax class bulk carrier. The agreement sets a gross sale price of $12.5 million for the ship.

The company stated the vessel is one of its oldest, having been built in 2007. The forward delivery date for the Pedhoulas Leader to its new, unnamed owner is scheduled to take place between August and October 2025.

The sale is described as part of the company’s ongoing fleet renewal strategy. Dr. Loukas Barmparis, President of Safe Bulkers, commented on the sale, noting that the company had achieved its targeted sale price for the vessel.

He also provided an update on the company’s newbuilding program, confirming that Safe Bulkers currently has six new "energy-efficient" vessels on order. Of these newbuilds, four are scheduled to be delivered to the company within 2026.
