The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index rose on Wednesday, buoyed by stronger rates across all categories.
The main Baltic index rose 36 points, or one per cent, to 3,620.
The Capesize index was up 87 points, or 1.4 per cent, at 6,400.
Average daily earnings for Capesize vessels increased by $788 to $54,538.
However, iron ore prices fell after a four-session winning streak, weighed down by concerns over demand in top consumer China as steelmakers cut output amid shrinking margins, while higher ore imports also added pressure.
The Panamax index was unchanged at 2,414.
Average daily earnings for Panamax vessels rose $1 to $21,725.
The supramax index was up 11 points, or 0.7 per cent, at 1,704.
