The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk sea freight index rose on Friday as rates increased across all vessel segments, but the benchmark still posted a weekly decline.
The main Baltic index was up 50 points, or 1.8 per cent, at 2,841. The index fell 0.8 per cent for the week.
The Capesize index gained 123 points, or 2.8 per cent, to 4,552, extending gains for a second consecutive session. The index gained 0.3 per cent this week.
Average daily earnings for Capesize vessels rose $1,118 to $37,785.
Iron ore futures were little changed as support from destocking at major Chinese ports countered pressure from a decline in mill profitability.
The Panamax index was up 15 points, or 0.7 per cent, at 2,103, snapping a seven-session losing streak. The index logged a weekly fall of 5.6 per cent.
Average daily earnings for Panamax vessels rose $138 to $18,928.
