It is a well-documented fact that the Philippines plays a huge role in the global maritime industry through the provision of vast numbers of seafarers, but the South-East Asian nation's contribution amounts to far more than that.
As well as being the biggest crew supplier in the world, the Philippines is also the world leader in the field of education and training of highly skilled mariners. Another less-circulated fact is that the country is also the world's fourth-biggest shipbuilder, largely through outsourced projects for companies from Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Australia.
It's therefore appropriate, or indeed essential, that the country's impact on global maritime affairs should feature prominently as part of China Maritime 2012, next week in Hong Kong. The Philippines Maritime League will be holding a promotion on Tuesday, February 28, from 1600-1800 in Room S423 of the Hong Kong Conference and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).
