China announces shipyard “whitelist”

Valentine Watkins

The Chinese government has released a whitepaper aiming to tackle the latent overcapacity in its domestic shipbuilding industry.

The paper, dubbed the "White List", was released by the government's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, reported Asiasis.

In collaboration with the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI) and the China Classification Society (CCS), the paper names over 50 shipbuilders as key performers in the nation's shipbuilding industry.

These yards will subsequently enjoy easy access to capital and financial support, encouraging the yards not listed to undergo restructuring or reorganisation.

The list incorporates both private and state owned shipyards, with the list mostly made up of recognisable and reputable yards such as COSCO, CSSC, CSIC, Taizhou Kouan, Fujian Mawei, CIMC Raffles, Qingdao, the Yangfan Group, and Zhejiang.
