Ocean Network Express (ONE) held a naming ceremony on June 18 for its newest containership, ONE Singapore. The event took place at the Hiroshima shipyard of builder Imabari Shipbuilding in Japan.
The 13,900 TEU vessel is the sixth in a series of twenty newbuilds for ONE. The ship, which is flagged in Singapore and classed by Lloyd’s Register, is designed to be ready for future conversion to run on methanol or ammonia fuel.
ONE Singapore follows the delivery of the series' first vessel, ONE Sparkle, and other sister ships. These vessels have a length of 335.9 metres, a beam of 51 metres, and a service speed of approximately 22 knots. The company stated the new vessel will be deployed on its existing trade lanes.
Jeremy Nixon, Chief Executive Officer of ONE, said that naming the vessel after the company's global headquarters was chosen to symbolise its, "strong connection to Singapore's vibrant maritime ecosystem." ONE established its headquarters in Singapore in 2017.
