HD Korea Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering (KSOE) has entered into an agreement with an undisclosed European shipping company regarding the construction of 18 new container vessels in three different series.

Under the agreement, KSOE's subsidiaries will build four 8,400TEU ships, eight 2,800TEU ships, and six 1,800TEU ships. The four 8,400TEU ships will be built by HD Hyundai Samho while the remaining 14 ships will be constructed by HD Hyundai Mipo.

Together with the two 2,800TEU container ships and two 16,000TEU container ships announced on April 23 and 24 to be built by HD Hyundai Mipo and HD Hyundai Samho, respectively, KSOE has now contracted 22 containerships with a total value of KRW2.54 trillion (US$1.8 billion).

The 8,400TEU ships will be equipped with dual-fuel engines that can run on both diesel and LNG, while the 16,000TEU ships will be fitted with scrubbers to reduce emissions in response to stricter environmental protection regulations enforced by the IMO.
