Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyard in China has floated out a new container vessel being built for South Korean shipping company Hansung Line.
Named Hansung Weihai, the completed vessel will have an LOA of 126 metres, a beam of 18 metres, a depth of 8.5 metres, a design draught of six metres, and a capacity of 430 TEUs. The propulsion system will deliver a speed of 20 knots, making the vessel faster than many containerships of similar size.
The ship also has distinctive features such as an exhaust gas cleaning system, intelligent operating systems, a hull design compatible for navigation in both rivers and deep-sea waters, and systems for reducing the emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.
Construction of Hansung Weihai is being undertaken by Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyard in compliance with the requirements of both China Classification Society and South Korean class society Korean Register. As with other ships in the Hansung Line fleet, it will be operated on a regular line service between Incheon and the city of Weihai in Shandong province.
