A new point defence weapon system developed by defence technology company Aselsan recently completed its first live firing from a surface ship.
The successful live fire test of the Goksur point defence missile system developed jointly by Aselsan and the TÜBİTAK Defence Industries Research and Development Institute was carried out in the Black Sea off the coast of Sinop by the Turkish Navy Burak-class corvette TCG Beykoz on Sunday, February 16.
The test included the firing of a Goksur imaging infrared (IIR) missile, which also features two-way datalink communication. The missile can be employed against a range of low-flying airborne threats such as fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, anti-ship and cruise missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles.
The complete Goksur system also includes a modular vertical launch system and a combat management system. Aselsan said the complete system can be easily integrated into existing ships thanks to its modular construction.
The system also boasts 360-degree coverage and the ability to engage multiple targets simultaneously.
