The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (Försvarets Materielverk - FMV), together with the Swedish Armed Forces and Saab, has carried out a test firing at sea with the Torpedo 47 light torpedo system installed on a small patrol boat.
"The results show new opportunities to use the weapon system on smaller boats than it was originally developed for," said FMV
"We have carried out tests and trials with Torpedo 47 installed on a combat boat 90," said Joakim Drakfors, Project Manager at FMV.
"It has been a collaboration between the projects 'amphibious battalion 2030' and 'new light torpedo'. We see this system solution as a good platform on which to be able to test or develop temporary installations of the weapon system.
"What we have learned during these test firings we can take with us in the continued system work for solutions to achieve both effectiveness and increased mobility with a weapon system that is very potent."
The results from the tests show possibilities for the future with a combination of Torpedo m/47 and other effect systems to be able to coordinate effect in two dimensions against an opponent both below the surface and above water.
